What began with a smokejumper and a portable sawmill in 1979 has evolved into one of the largest and most diverse wildfire suppression and forest restoration companies in the United States. Grayback Forestry Inc., has five strategic locations that greatly increase our ability to mobilize resources quickly and provide efficient and effective service for our valued customers.

We send personnel and equipment resources all over the nation to fight wildfires and perform restoration treatments such as prescribed burning and forest thinning as well as other restoration methods.

Grayback is a founding member of the National Wildfire Suppression Association, through which we provide nationally recognized forestry and Wildland Fire Suppression training.

Robust Services for Fire and Forest Management

Wildfire Suppression

Wildfire suppression includes a range of firefighting tactics used to contain and extinguish wildfires. Firefighting efforts in wild land areas require different techniques, equipment, and training from the more familiar structure firefighting found in populated areas.

Grayback’s wildfire-trained crews suppress flames, construct fire lines, and extinguish flames and areas of heat to protect resources, forests, rangelands and natural wilderness. Wildfire suppression tactics are used to protect the wildland-urban interface, where populated areas border with wild land areas.

Prescribed Fire

Prescribed fire an environmentally sound practice used to bring our forests back to a more historical fire resilient state.

After many years of fire exclusion, an ecosystem that needs periodic fire becomes unhealthy.

Trees are stressed by overcrowding; fire-dependent species disappear; and flammable fuels build up and become hazardous. Prescribe fire reduces hazardous fuels, protecting human communities from extreme fires.

Hazardous Fuels Management

Fuels management projects reduce the risk of catastrophic wildland fire while restoring forest and rangeland ecosystems to closely resemble their natural state.

Hazardous fuels are reduced through a variety of treatments that remove or modify wildland fuels, thereby reducing the potential for severe wildland fire behavior, lessening post-fire damage, and limiting the spread of invasive species and diseases.

Home Protection & Defensible Space

Grayback provides protection for homes, commercial buildings, and vegetation when wildfires descend upon communities. Applying fire suppressant gel and class A foams to pretreat homes, buildings and vegetation for protection against advancing wildfires.

When strategically applied gel and foam provide a long-lasting barrier against flames and burning embers. These products are much more effective than just plain water for protection against fire. We use fire engines and tactical tenders to apply products.
